You use a different set of defs for a second opinion. That's the theory behind running second opinion scans. The MBAM on demand scan is a second opinion scan using MBAM defs which is different from Norton defs. The contention for some is that two real time protection engines may fight over the same nasty and neither gets to catch it. The Free version is an on demand scanner and as such does not offer real time protection as Norton offers real time protection.
